First suffering and then hope

The solstice has arrived. And Summer’s big debut comes with heat, humidity, migraines, insomnia, late-night fireworks and extra loud motorcycles, bug bites, sunburns, sweat and misery.

Yes, Summer is my least favorite of the four seasons. It is the one time when I refuse to live in the moment. Instead, I focus entirely on the future.

For there, I see hope and I’m holding onto it. While this is the longest freakin’ day of the year, and while the temperature today is going to be a brutal 103 degrees, I just need to keep reminding myself of one simple fact. Starting tomorrow:

THE BLESSED DARKNESS IS COMING BACK.

I can’t wait.

It’s so funny you posted this. You know I hate summer too and I was just looking at an almanac site to see when the days start to get shorter!

This week I had to get my big fan out of the closet, I opened the windows (so now I hear all the honking and yelling and motorcycles going by), and I just killed an ant on my coffee table. I can’t wait until Labor Day.

Oh, Jade, I was afraid you were getting zonked by that darn heat dome. But I was hoping you weren’t because I know how much havoc the heat wrecks on you. But 103?! HOLY SCHMOLIE!!!! I didn’t realize it was getting up into those temps!!! GAH!!!! And knowing how much you hate the heat, it’s awkward to comment on brilliantly you wrote this, but it was great! So, yeah heat? Way to light a fire under Jade’s muse?
